Calcium, why consume it every day?
by Marie De Giey
Did you know that calcium is the most abundant mineral in our body? It weighs about 1 kg in the adult.
Calcium is essential for our body! Our bones are actually living tissues that renew and degrade throughout our lives!
The way we supply our bones with calcium every day is therefore essential for their good health.
At the beginning of our life, the young bone replaces the old bone in order to repair the various damages suffered by the bone. Then, from the age of 30, the bone ages physiologically: the amount of old bone exceeds the amount of young bone. This can promote the development of osteoporosis.
It is therefore very important to consume Calcium at any age of our life! This reduces the risk of certain diseases: osteoporosis, hypertension, colorectal cancer… but also overweight!
Do not forget to combine Calcium with Vitamin D so that it binds better to our bones.
Here are the main sources of dietary calcium: fatty fish (salmon, sardines, anchovies, tuna, etc.), almonds, tofu, dairy products, whole grains, green vegetables, etc.
